For lovers of outdoor activities and adrenaline, Umgawa ziplines are the perfect option if you want to join a rain forest visit and a little bit of excitement. Gorgeous forests covering the area of Malaysia are nowhere else to be found. Taking a bird’s eye view of the tropical forests is a great opportunity that should be used. We didn’t hesitate for long and decided to have a first-hand experience of the zipline.
How it works
When we got to Umgawa-Zipline Eco Adventures, we were warmly welcomed. The company offers the longest and highest zipline on the island of which there’s a beautiful view of the forest, the waterfall, and even the sea.
It was obvious that the company set the highest level of safety for its customers. The professional approach of the staff evokes trust in us. This fun is also ideal for families with children too, just for anyone who isn’t much afraid of heights. At first, our guides instructed us and told us what is ahead of us. The two young men took care of us, they were very willing and not afraid to enrich each sentence with a joke. They explained how the tour would be on the training rope.
The tour took approximately 1-2 hours, accordingly to the fitness level of individuals. Umgawa zipline eco-tour contains of 12 ziplines and 3 sky bridges, which are connected in the tree crowns. Each tree has a board from which a rope leads to another tree. It all take place under the watch of out two guides who go the whole route with you.
At one board, the instructor will attach the pulley to a steel rope and you can slide to the next tree. There is already another instructor waiting and he will stop you and unhook you. Along with the pulley you have a carbine on your harness, which the instructor attaches to the next rope wrapped around the tree. Thus, you are secured all the time and the two guides do all the work. You don’t have to care about anything actually, just enjoy beautiful views.
The first-hand experience of a zipline
When we set off to the first zipline, we were both impatient. The way was lead through the heavy vegetation of the forest and we needed to climb up a few steps. Even though we didn’t see any animal, we felt that the whole forest around us is overflowing with life. The first zipline is located a few meters above the ground and every new rope is stretching out a little higher than the previous one. Perfectly designed to warm you up.
Our guide started to talk about how old the forests in Malaysia are and describe individual kinds of trees and plants which we saw around. We learned which of them are poisonous and which parasitize other trees. And when you get lost in the jungle, a banana tree can save your life because it contains the biggest share of water. When we got to the longest zipline (approximately 200 meters), a surprise was waiting for us. The flight above the beautiful Seven Wells Waterfalls took our breath away. That was why we decided that we won’t post any picture or video of this waterfall because we would rob you of the best this zipline can offer. At the end of the route, there is a double zipline, which means that you can slide together with your buddy.
Since I had previously been on a zipline in Costa Rica, I knew what to expect. But this was a completely different experience. In Costa Rica, the slide on the ropes was unbelievably fast and full of adrenaline. At Umgawa ziplines, I enjoyed beautiful views of the landscape more. I would definitely recommend this attraction to everybody because it is not physically demanding and experienced instructors will take care of everything.
