If you decide to visit the Australian Sydney, don’t forget to check out the Blue Mountains as well. The rare eucalyptus forests are located a stone’s throw away from the city center. And why are they called “blue”? Namely because of the bluish mist that hovers over the forests, most often during the hot days. The mist is eucalyptus oil evaporating from the tree leaves.

When we were planning our visit to the Blue Mountains, we booked a trip with the Coast Warriors. This company was founded by three young Australians, who drive around Sydney and its surroundings on their bus called Trudy. They ensure that the visitors experience absolutely unforgettable trips that are completely different from other commercial activities available. In short, they do it differently and they do it better. We surely won’t forget this trip anytime soon.

If you want to visit the Blue Mountains without any tour, here great one-day itinerary.

Blue eucalyptus forests with Coast Warriors

The Blue Mountains are located about 100 km from Sydney and they are a popular location for the visitors of the city. The Blue eucalyptus forests has declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. The forest attracts tourists mainly because of its stunning views, pathways, and waterfalls.

When the bus Trudy was picking us up in the Sydney center, we weren’t at all sure what to expect. Together with us, there were about 20 people on the bus – including our tour guide Nico and driver Trent. The energetic Nico turned to us immediately and started telling us about what was going to happen. He made the time to say a couple of words to everyone on the bus. Nico is a showman, and he was the one in charge of the entertainment throughout our whole trip. He was telling jokes left and right and cheerfully entertained others. We immediately felt like we were on a trip with a group of friends; the mood was happy and relaxed. Everyone started chatting with each other straight away.

Our first stop was in the little town Katoomba, where we had a coffee break. When we arrived to the Blue Mountains, what first awaited us were several short stops with views of the surrounding area. We, of course, couldn’t miss the Three Sisters rock formations as well as a trip to a small waterfall. Nico told us all about the eucalyptus forests and Australian animals that live there. The whole trip was planned out expertly and we weren’t bored for a minute.

The charming Wentworth Falls

We drove to the Wentworth Falls before lunch. While Trent prepared lunch for us in the park, we set out together with Nico straight to the Falls themselves. They were one of the most beautiful waterfalls we had ever seen. The trip back was much more challenging; walking up so many stairs took some effort. But once we had managed to climb up, what was waiting for us was a delicious lunch in a park – a typical Aussie BBQ.

If you want to take pictures anywhere, be sure to ask Nico. He takes a lot of pictures throughout the whole trip, but if you ask he’ll take some just for you. He is a very experienced photographer and knows how to take the best photos!

Our lunch consisted of grilled kangaroo meat, sausages, and vegetables. Before we entered the park, we also visited a liquor shop, so everyone could buy a beer or whatever else he or she liked. Honestly, the lunch was fantastic. After lunch, we had to drive on the bus for quite a bit longer, but Nico was prepared. Fun game on the bus. And it really was so much fun; we spend the whole way laughing.

Kangaroo watching

Another stop was in a small forest, where kangaroos live. We were really lucky and managed to see several wild kangaroos. They were only a few meters from us, but a group as large as ours scared them off and they slowly hopped away. After that, Nico and Trent taught us how to correctly throw a boomerang and then we spent a while throwing around a rugby ball as well. On the way back to the city, we stopped at several viewpoints as well; however, it was slowly but surely getting dark.

We arrived back to Sydney after dark, but the fun was far from over. We got off the bus Trudy in front of the Scubar bar, where we had one free drink and pizza. It was great to be able to sit down for a while with our new friends and share our experiences from the day. The whole trip with Coast Warriors was undoubtedly expertly planned out to the very last detail, perfectly organized and a lot of fun. We would strongly recommend a tour with Coast Warriors to anyone under 35.
